Bonobo :: Cirrus :: Cyriak
Cyriak is a british visual artist / animator, whose work is super inspiring. With a very distinct aesthetic, he uses a lot of old footage to extract elements, which he pieces together to form very surreal pieces that give an insight into his warled mind. He’s done work for a lot of big names, most recently Bonobo. This is the video he made for their new release Cirrus. He totally took this to another level. Watch.
Related to the previous post, this is Coppola talking about the democratization of filmmaking as an artform, and breaking the illusion of so-called ‘professionalism’ .
This is in ‘91, if not earlier. So relevant in today’s internet age.
Telling a story doesn’t need high definition or big budgets or the latest technology. It needs a beginning, middle and an end, with a whole lot of heart in between.
At the time of going into production for ‘Apocalypse Now’ in 1979, Francis Ford Coppola was the Oscar winning director of Godfather fame. He was clearly established as one of the finest in the trade. He decided to fund the project himself. Everything after that point on was one intense disaster after another. These are excerpts the documentary ‘Hearts of Darkness : A film makers Apocalypse’, which features behind the scenes footage and secret recordings made by his wife Elanor Coppola during the production of the film.
Getting access to see Coppola at work in itself would have made this film worth the watch , but to see him in his weaker moments of indecision - a filmmaker of his credentials and ability - reinstated that doubt is inherent in art. And infact, it is a part of the process. Which is something I constantly struggle with myself. But the process is an enjoyable one. Watch the film.
Nostalgia is a strange emotion.
It’s like that moment in time captured forever - an emotion, a smell, an encounter with that stranger, those songs playing in the background when you were a child. It can take you back into that moment. Make you live it a several hundred times.
Sajid Akbar is a sound/video artist from New Delhi/London. This is his nostalgia.
Also listen to his music, which is equally inspiring on his Soundcloud.
The V Motion Project
Technology constantly inspires and redefines the way one approaches things. Take the V-Motion project for example. It uses the Kinect engine, which was first introduced by Microsoft as part of its gaming console for the Xbox.
Over the past few years, developers and engineers across the world have been working on hacks to use the kinect to create interactive visual systems which react and respond to movements. The results are these stunning interactive performance, which further explore the idea of virtual reality.

The tremendous shakes are courtesy the wild moshpits!
A super animated short made by Rajesh Thakare and Troy Vasanth of the National Institute of Design, Ahemdabad. It captures a lot of the character and quirk of the city that is Mumbai, and also addresses a very serious sanitation issue that, amongst others, is widespread through most of this developing 3rd world nation of ours.
Neat little music video made for ‘Skyrabbits - Hilltop‘ by bangalore based video artist Ashwin Bhaskar. ‘Skyrabbit’, formerly known as ‘Medusa,’ who dish out some unpretentious electro-groove soundscapes, go well with Ashwin’s abstract style of story telling. Check some more of his stellar work on his vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/ashmash
A rehash of Hitchcocks classic ‘Rear Window’ (1954).
There is no denying the influence Hitchcock has had not just on filmmakers, but artists across. This rehash is a fitting tribute to the man who spooked generations.
